Being Elle: The Sunday Catch Up 018.....

2014-05-04

1. Monday started off on a really crappy note- My Grandpa had been taken into a hospital after a mild stroke, he is fine now doing a lot better then he was, but it just puts life into perspective I suppose & just makes you realise that your grandparents may not be around for that much longer.

2. My Sims Three obsession has returned- Adam you only have yourself to blame, as he exclaimed (whilst tidying my tech box) 'you don't play on The Sims anymore!' Oh, don't I?!

3. Now that the warm weather has started to return, I have been contemplating buy the Sally Hansen Airbrushed Legs Tan Glow. I have seen some really amazing pictures of the befores & afters on Pinterest which make me really want to give it a go, so if any of you guys have tried this or something similar let me know how you got on with it.

4. Never go into Marks & Spencer's hungry kids! This lesson was truly learnt on Wednesday after popping into my local one on my lunch break for a bottle of water, quickly turned into a full blown food splurge *slaps self on wrist*. However, I thankfully discovered the joys of their Falafal Balls (remember my craving for falafal in my last TSCU?) which definitely scratched an itch!

5. Also on Wednesday I dug my sad iPhone out of it's rice bed to discover it was alive! Yes guys the rice saved it, its a miracle! Although my new phone arrived on the same day meaning I now have two working phones *face palm*. So if anyone needs an iPhone 4, just ask!

6. Friday night was date night. This week we treated ourselves to an Ask complete with Buffalo Mozzarella, Parma Ham & Rocket Pizza, glass of Rose & a Garlic Bread to share. After chowing that bad boy down, we headed off to watch The Amazing Spiderman Two which was epic! Having already seen it once for my brothers birthday & thoroughly enjoying it, I was looking forward to seeing it again & wow I just loved it! Definitely a must see.

7. I have been obsessed with Palmers Coco Butter Body Lotion- smells so yummy, you would think it was edible & keeps my pins & hands soft & moisturised. Predict this will be my 'go to' body lotion for the rest of the year!

8. Saturday night was a little bit random- half of it was spent chilling on the sofa, eating a bowl full of pasta & chargrilled veg whilst laughing at the Top Gear's Africa Special repeat on Dave. & the other half was spent at an eighteen year old's birthday party, watching eighteen year old's make total fools out of themselves falling onto the floor (alcohol induced) & sticking there tongues down each others throats! That last sentence made me feel like a total granny, but jeez it was cringy! Two guesses as to where I would rather have been!?

9. Today (Sunday) has been spent on a bit of a spring cleaning mission. I packed away all my thick knits for the summer, bagged up some old clothes for recycling & went through my magazine pile. How productive!

Nails Of The Week: Feeling Fruity......

IMG_1865

The sun is shining, you've probably dusted off your barbecue & may have contemplated wearing, gasps flip flops! But if the thought of the last two is a little premature, I have a little subtle sprinkle of summer that will put a smile on your face- orange nails, more specifically a light peach shade.

Queue Barry M's Gelly (that's right, with a g & not j!) Polishes which myself & a fair few other beauty girlies out there were completely lusting over last summer (mainly down to how ridiculously glossy they are!) & with the weather being super super sunny recently, I decided to crack out an old fav & embrace the bright coloured nails!

'Papaya' is a gorgeous peachy, coral shade that with or without a tan looks really pretty. As I said before, the ultimate thing I love the most about these nail polishes is the super glossy & hi shine effect these polishes have as soon as it touches your nails- looks like your wearing Nails inc's 'Kensington Caviar Topcoat' when secretly it's just two coats! The formula is a thick consistency meaning that with one swoop of the brush you get a great even coverage, but with two coats you get high shine & long wearing all in one.

Who doesn't want to pretend your sitting on a white, sandy beach drinking a fancy, tropical cocktail whilst supporting perfectly  fruity talons?!

Being Elle: The Sunday Catch Up 017......

2014-04-13

1. The hunt for a home continues & as always, Monday has been the day where I check Zoopla & Rightmove religiously as well as badgering estate agents to see if any houses have or are on the market matching our requirements.

2. Aside from house hunting & dodgy estate agents giving me a head ache, the only thing that has been keeping me sane this week is the idea of a summer holiday. Now I don't know where or when I will be going away this summer, I only know that I need to be somewhere quiet & warm!

3. This week I have been craving Wholefoods Falafal pieces with plain Hummus. Random I know but for some reason since discovering them in New York & the weather heating up, it just seems like the perfect summer snack! My question to you all is: Do the sell them in the Wholefoods in London?

4. Over the past I'd say month or so, I have been obsessed with watching old episodes of Gossip Girl namely seasons one, two & three. Who remembers Blair & Nate dating, Serena confessing to killing a man, Dan sleeping with a teacher & Jenny not wearing heavy black liner!? My one piece of advice to you all- dust off your GG boxsets & go on a marathon!

5. I was a single, cat lady for the evening on Wednesday as Adam was at Gadget Show live in Birmingham for the day, meaning I was left to fend for myself for the evening. This involved me cracking open a bottle of red, cooking Spag Bol for one, singing along to Green Day's American Idiot album & chatting to the cat! This is what my single life could have been like...

6. Shed a few tears on Thursday watching Anna give birth to her gorgeous baby boy! It was so so beautiful & it just makes me love watching their daily vlogs even more (watch it HERE).

7. The sun was out this Saturday & I was stuck indoors all day at work- boo! Nothing more to say.

8. Today (Sunday) I has been fairly productive as a Sunday goes- deep cleaned my hair using my trust Bumble & Bumble Sunday Shampoo, gave myself a snazzy, glossy, wavy blowout, made a tasty Sunday appropriate lunch of beans on toast (lush!) & started to spring clean my wardrobe. Who says Sundays are the day of rest!?

The Video: Beachy Glossy Waves Hair Tutorial (No Heat).....

0001G0

Its been nearly four years since I last did a heartless waves tutorial & god jolly this one is a whole lot better then my last one!

I have had four years to perfect my technique as to how I achieve beachy but glossy looking waves & this one is the most quickest & easiest, so much so that I pretty much do this everytime I wash my hair. I always get compliments on my hair when I wear it like this & it looks even better on two day hair with a spritz of dry shampoo with more texture & volume to it. It's perfect for me as I have to leave for work at six am every morning, so I can just create the waves overnight & run out of the door in the morning- no fuss!

I leave for work every morning at six am. Do you think I have time to put in any effort into my hair in the mornings? The answer to that my friends is a big fat NO! So what do I do to my hair to make it look a little more put together & as though I have been up since four getting ready for the day- the sleep with my hair in buns!

Thats right folks, my hair secret is out. I sleep with my hair wet, nicely rolled up in some Miley-esque buns! You happy you asked now?! This is my favourite hair look of all time on me, I get so many compliments from people I work with asking how I make my hair look so effortless & glossy but the answer is quiet simple- I do really nothing to it. Simple, glossy, beachy waves are within reach plus it looks even better on day two hair *winks*

Check out the video (Here) to see how I achieved this look.

Guernsey is one of those places which makes me feel a number of emotions. Nostalgic, peaceful, grounded, relaxed, blessed, careless.

For years we have visited this small island & every time we come back feeling refreshed, reconnected & relaxed. It's nice to visit family & reconnect with them, shrug off the stress you have at home & become grounded again. I love waking up to the view of the sea, driving along the coast with the windows down, smelling the salty air, listening to the crashing of the waves on jagged rocks & most importantly, finding myself. Guernsey is such a humble, breath taking & laid back island & is fair to say, my utopia.

Where is your favourite place to travel?

My Weekly Must Haves 002 .....

IMG_1812
L-R: Vanilla Frangipani Eau de Toilette, Essie Nail Polish in 'Bikini So Teeny', Newlook Limited Edition Necklace, Revlon Colorburst Matte Lipbalm in 'Complex', Zoopla & Zara Mint Green Sweat Top.
IMG_1821

The clocks go forward next week, the evenings are getting lighter & after last weeks sunshine & warm weather, I am definatly ready to retire my winter wardrobe & embrace Spring!

I am in love with wearing Sweat Tops at the moment, especially ones with slogans on- they are much lighter then wearing a knitted jumper but still keep you warm enough during the day, as layering is still key during this 'in between' stage. My favourite are the ones by Zara which, I think resemble the ones Whistles have on offer but for more then half the price! Layer over the top of a crisp white shirt with a pair of ripped jeans & a classic pair of heels- your good to go! Alternatively you could also throw on a statement necklace to peek out from underneath the collar, mine is from New Look & I love how the turquoise gems compliment the mint green of the sweat top, making it look a little more put together & chic. At the moment I am loving a nude or barely there lip shade to compliment a more peachier complexion, Revlon's Matte Lipbalms are my 'go to' of the moment & this one in the shade 'Complex' does not disappoint- glides on beautifully & has a very moisturising feel to it, makes that effortless beauty days a dream. Nails, Nails, Nails- I am all about the Spring shades at the moment & the Essie shades are always my favourite. 'Bikini So Teeny' is a lovely lavender blue, which looks great when wearing mint green & adds a pop of colour to your outfit. My house hunt continues after the disappointment of last week & like most savvy house hunters, Zoopla is a godsend- I check this more then Zara on my lunch break! & finally my Spring/Summer scent is back in action after being in hibernation for six months *yay!* I got this in France last year & smells sweet & summery, which reminds me of my summer holiday & how summer is not too far away!
